100 Popular Cat Names for 2021

100 Best Cat Names

If like us, you are adopting a rescue cat, he or she may already have a name. However it doesn’t mean you can’t change them!

Before we decided to go ahead and rescue an adult cat rather than to buy a kitten, we talked a lot about it with our kids, to get them ready for the idea of having a new pet.

Talking with them about names was a really fun way to make them feel involved in the process – though I’m not sure the cat would be too pleased about any of the suggestions!

Cat names, similarly to baby and dog names, do follow trends. Films, books, TV characters to name but a few of the influences on our naming practises.

Naming a Cat

When considering a name for your cat, always remember that they have this name for life! So calling him a comedy name might be fun for a while but it could wear thin…

And in case you weren’t sure, cats do respond to their own names. When calling a dog for example, a two-syllable name is quite popular and good at catching their attention, and when collaborating our list of favourites, we found that most popular cat names have two syllables too.

We’ve done our research, trawled the internet, asked all our friends and family, and come up with 50 female and 50 male names that we think you’ll love.

Our list of cat names includes personal favourites and names of both our past cats and those of friends and family, so we couldn’t resist including them here!

We had Danny and Daisy, Marmalade and Treacle, a Bonnie and a Tiger to name a few. And although Bella shows up time and time again as a most popular female cat name, we won’t be making any changes to our pretty puss – her name just fits.
